ABOUT US . . .

When Gus arrived at our house we had no intention of spending our weekends at dog shows, nor certainly not breeding dogs.  Our only thought was of having a family pet.

He had been with us only a few weeks when our son found an advertisement in the newspaper for a dog show that was to take place nearby that weekend.  We went and were overwhelmed.  We were encouraged to train our pup.  Naive us thought that meant obedience, and Gus could definitely use that, so we went to a handling class.  The instructor said he showed promise and worked with us.  Meanwhile our son discovered that he could show in Junior Showmanship.

Things began to snowball.

We joined the Basset Hound Club of Southern California in 1978.  I served as both Treasurer and President.  Subsequently we joined the Basset Hound Club of America and a local all-breed club.  I served as Chair of the Research Committee for BHCA for some 13 years and was Editor of Tally-Ho for 2 years.

By 1990 we realized that we could never have a significant breeding program with the restrictions imposed in a suburban neighborhood, so we began looking for rural property where we could have more dogs. We found it in 1991 in Southwest Washington but had to wait 2 more years for an early retirement offer to make it all come together.

After moving here we became active in the Basset Hound Club of Portland, Longview-Kelso KC and Cascade Hound Assn.  Ray has served as President of BHCP,  and LKKC, and is currently Treasurer of LKKC.  I have served as Secretary of both groups.
